Parrotcare - Problem Solving

Hyperactivity

Hyperactivity is yet another symptom of calcium deficiency. This time it is normally associated with good levels of vitamin supplementation but poor calcium supplementation. The B group vitamins ensure the bird's energy management is working well but the lack of calcium prevents proper nerve and muscle function.

The most common cause is vitamin supplements (like Daily Essentials3) being added to fresh fruits and vegetables but calcium being added to the water. Birds eating large quantities of moist fresh foods drink very little (fruit is 90% water). So these birds don't get enough calcium. The solution is to add Calcivet to the food with the vitamins
